We Need YOU at the BioBlitz!

Please join us on Saturday, May 11 and help us make this an amazing day of discovery.

Part scientific endeavor, part festival, and part education, the 2015 BioBlitz at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller NHP ( will bring together leading scientists, naturalists, and community members of all ages to find and document as many species as possible in one day at the park as part of the Vermont Atlas of Life. If you plan to attend, please consider joining the MBRNHP iNaturalist BioBlitz 2015 project today!

A BioBlitz is an intensive one-day study of biodiversity in a specific location. We’ll look for birds, mammals, reptiles, butterflies, insects, spiders, trees, flowers, mushrooms, and more!

People of all ages and skill levels are welcome! Bring your smart phone if you have one. Bonus: camera, binoculars, magnifying glasses, butterfly nets, gardening gloves, and other personal equipment if you’d like. Everyone will add observations to our real-time online website on iNaturalist. We’ll be able to watch live as we find more and more species.

Festivities begin at 7am. Come at anytime. We'll be headquartered at the Forest Center building near route 12. Need more info? Call 802-457-3368 x22 for more information.

Tool Tip: Set Your iNaturalist Place

There is a new tool on iNaturalist that allows you to set your home place on your profile. If you set it to Vermont, good things will happen.

  1. You will get common names that, for the most part, make sense for Vermont.
  2. When you search and name an observation it will default to Vermont species. For example, you won't mix up a Mountain Maple from Europe with the species here in Vermont.
  3. When you look at a species page, it will show you whether something is native to Vermont or not, and when and how often it's been seen here.

To set your place, go to your profile page and on the right hand column at the bottom select edit account settings and profile. Under place, type in Vermont, US and select it. Now you are all set.
