Tool Tip: Set Your iNaturalist Place

There is a new tool on iNaturalist that allows you to set your home place on your profile. If you set it to Vermont, good things will happen.

  1. You will get common names that, for the most part, make sense for Vermont.
  2. When you search and name an observation it will default to Vermont species. For example, you won't mix up a Mountain Maple from Europe with the species here in Vermont.
  3. When you look at a species page, it will show you whether something is native to Vermont or not, and when and how often it's been seen here.

To set your place, go to your profile page and on the right hand column at the bottom select edit account settings and profile. Under place, type in Vermont, US and select it. Now you are all set.

Good feature! No more Large Heath, Essex Skipper and clicking the wrong Silver-spotted Skipper for me.

And, we can add Vermont common names too if they are wrong or missing so let us know!
