Project Update - June 2023

Summer is here, and that is evident by the many breeding birds and moths that are being observed in our project. Once again, many of our observations are also from our eriemetroparks account, using camera trap data, including the AHDriFT system that we have on loan from the Ohio Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (OHPARC). You can learn more about the Erie MetroParks AHDriFT Project here: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/erie-metroparks-ahdrift-project

We had just one new member this month. Welcome, @hroni! If you know of anyone that may be interested, please direct them to our page!

The project increased from 8414 to 9005 observations (+591), 1794 to 1833 species (+39), while the number of observers increased from 178 to 181 (+3).

Our number of Research Grade observations increased from 5452 to 5766 (+314). This equates to a Research Grade percentage of 64.03% (down slightly from 64.80%).

In total, there were 591 observations added to the project within June 2023. The observations include 277 insects, 82 plants, 78 mammals, 72 reptiles, 35 arachnids, 33 birds, 6 amphibians, 2 molluscs, 1 fungi, and 1 slime mold.

Of these, there were 238 species recorded. Common garter snake was the species observed the most (66 occasions), followed by Eastern chipmunk (23), tree swallow (21), and common raccoon (20).

The observations came from 11 observers. The top 5 observers were @mikehensley75 (199), @eriemetroparks (168), @nrpeters (120), @martyndrabik (68), and crosscountrycoach (17).
