Project Update - October 2022

We had one new member join the project this month. However, this is our Erie MetroParks account, which will be used for programming. Feel free to follow this account to see what kinds of wildlife are found on our programs: @eriemetroparks. If you know of anyone that may be interested, please direct them to our page!

During October, we are knee deep into the fall/autumn weather. Most of our summer residents are gone, and the leaves have either turned color, or fully dropped from our deciduous trees.

The project increased from 6369 to 6699 observations (+330), 1587 to 1631 species (+44), and 152 to 154 observers (+2).

Our number of Research Grade observations increased from 3981 to 4187 (+206). This equates to a Research Grade percentage of 62.51% (up from 62.09%).

In total, there were 314 observations added to the project within October 2022. The observations include 82 birds, 73 insects, 65 plants, 31 fungi, 21 mammals, 13 arachnids, 9 amphibians, 6 reptiles, 6 mollusks, and 1 fish.

Of these, there were 181 species recorded. Isabella Tiger Moth was the most observed species (9 occasions), followed by White-throated Sparrow, White-tailed Deer (both 7 occasions), and Northern Cardinal (5 occasions).

The observations came from 15 observers. The top five were @briarrose777 (71), @eriemetroparks (68), @mikehensley75 (56), @martyndrabik (48), and @jenniferc3 (45).

The top observations of the month include:
