Project Update - January 2023

Project Update - January 2023

We did not have any new members this month. If you know of anyone that may be interested, please direct them to our page!

We are in the depths of winter, so observations are likely to be down, as fewer people are out and about submitting observations. In addition, Pelton Park is no longer being included as part of this project, so we lost quite a few observations, as reflected in the statistics below.

The project decreased from 6777 to 6745 observations (-32), 1649 to 1645 species (-74), while the number of observers decreased to 154 observers (-1).

However, our number of Research Grade observations increased from 4316 to 4392 (+76). This equates to a Research Grade percentage of 65.11% (down from 63.69%).

In total, there were 56 observations added to the project within January 2023. The observations include 40 birds, 5 plants, 5 fungi, 3 mammals, 1 insect, and 1 slime mold.

Of these, there were 32 species recorded. Bald Eagle was the species observed the most (6 occasions), Northern Saw-whet Owl (4 occasions), Northern Cardinal, Dark-eyed Junco, and Eastern Bluebird (3 occasions each).

The observations came from just 4 observers. They were @briarrose777 (40), @martyndrabik (14), @jenniferc3 (1), and @lakeerie (1).

The top observations of the month include:
Carolina Wren - https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/145897795

Eastern Bluebird - https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/145893696

Thanks to all for contributing to the project!
