Ranching groups challenge gray wolf’s endangered status in California.

A lawsuit filed Tuesday by a conservative legal foundation on behalf of California farmers and ranchers alleges a state commission illegally listed gray wolves as an endangered species.

In photos: Horn shark is on the menu for California sea lions.

We've seen California sea lions gobble down thresher and leopard sharks, but during a recent cruise in Newport Beach, tourists spotted a spiky species heading down the hatch: horn shark.

Recovery: Bats with Your Tequila.

I tell them how lesser long-nosed bats pollinate plants all over our country, including 180 species of agave.”

Tequila is made from Agave tequilana (blue agave). For up to 14 years a plant will store sugar in order to produce one enormous flower spike; then it dies.

Learning the secret life of flying squirrels.

Flying squirrels have inhabited southern California’s San Bernardino Mountains for thousands of years, but most people have never seen one.

Now, a group of 50 citizen scientists, supported by a number of federal, state and local organizations, are trying to change that.
