All hail plants!

One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to observe 1000 plant species in Ontario. My motivation for taking on a Plant Big Year is meant to be a fun scavenger hunt that will allow me to learn more about plants. I’ve been interested in plants casually for many years, and I would like to become more serious about botany. This year, I’m primarily interested in learning to identify a wider variety of species, learning the natural history of common species, learning more about how to ethically harvest and forage wild plants for food and medicine, learning Indigenous names for plants, and developing a deeper connection with nature.

I am an aspiring outdoor educator and teacher candidate at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. My profile picture is Bunchberry that I painted in handmade Black Walnut ink. You can read about my adventures and ramblings here: https://carolinebiel.wordpress.com/
