I'm a librarian, artist, writer and newbie podcaster with a love of wild plants and gardens! My 2018 photo-collage, A Flora of Kingston, was displayed in Kingston, Ontario, as part of the City of Kingston's temporary public art program. That same year, my work was featured in Kingston Life magazine.

In 2019, I published the first story about Catharine McGill Crooks, a long-forgotten 19th century Ontario botanist. Crooks prepared an award-winning collection of roughly 500 botanical specimens, and captured a record of Ontario's flora before industrialization and urban sprawl changed the landscape forever. These specimens are now believed lost (except for one at McGill University Herbarium), though a list of Crooks' observations (along with those of her collaborator, Alexander Logie) was published in the Annals of the Botanical Society of Canada. You can read my article about Crooks on Atlas Obscura: https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/botanist-ontario-kate-crooks.
