My cats brought into the house a live rat, which I could not catch. It apparently decided to take refuge inside the automatic cat feeder, where it got stuck for a few days until I finally heard it scrabbling around. Unboxed outdoors, unharmed and extremely well fed. From the color and size, I’m guessing it was a black rat.

A whole bunch of algal growth on the W-facing surface of a concrete water tank high up Cobal Canyon Motorway, Marshall Canyon, San Gabriel Mountains foothills. The algae seems to be watered by a few small leaks in the wall of the water tank. Coin used for scale is a US quarter dollar (¢25 piece), 24.26 mm, 0.955 inch in diameter.

I believe this is the most neat observation I have personally captured. In this photo, we see a squirrel enjoying a taco shell which seems to be as large as the squirrel itself.
