another hotspot - Mt. Um
Apparently, Mt. Um has a newt roadkill problem as well. A friend counted 203 dead newts over 300yds, from the Junction of Hicks and Mt Umunhum Rds heading toward Almaden Res. He reported them here on H.E.R.P. - http://www.naherp.com/viewrecord.php?r_id=132760

Last year I saw similar mortality along Hicks, on the other side of Mt Um road, around Guadalupe Reservoir. Should have documented it, I'll keep an eye out again next winter.
So terribly sad...
If that's within Sierra Azul, it's Midpen's territory. What are they doing to protect their wildlife?
