I have now devoted four Posts to auricular semets in deer. Here is a partial pictorial synopsis.

Two different video clips within https://stoneageman.com/how-to-avoid-and-survive-a-moose-attack/ clearly show an anterior auricular semet, displayed in defensive anger in Alces alces. Do watch them both.

The following shows that an anterior auricular semet is the only clear feature of colouration on the otherwise plain head of Alces alces: https://www.alamy.com/moscow-russia-august-25-2020-closeup-portrait-of-funny-curious-head-of-a-moose-or-eurasian-elk-with-big-brown-eyes-and-nose-communicating-with-image370618080.html.

The following of Cervus canadensis shows that a posterior auricular semet can, in some views, be one of the few patterns in an otherwise plain colouration: https://www.alamy.com/stock-image-female-elk-cervus-canadensis-lying-down-and-resting-in-lime-deposits-168019993.html.

The following shows the same semet as in the last photo, but close-up: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/890600 (Cervus canadensis).

The following shows an anterior auricular semet in females of Cervus canadensis in summer coat: https://www.dreamstime.com/group-alaskan-elks-wapiti-summer-close-up-portrait-image198424399.

The following four items show auricular semets in Rusa unicolor:

Confirmation that the moose, when defensively angry, turns its ears backward, thus displaying an auricular semet: https://www.adfg.alaska.gov/index.cfm?adfg=wildlifenews.view_article&articles_id=939 and https://www.outdoors.org/resources/amc-outdoors/health-and-safety/responding-to-moose-encounters/.
