The San Antonio River Authority's (SARA) mission and vision is to protect and enhance our creeks and rivers through service, leadership and expertise, by inspiring actions for healthy creeks and rivers in the San Antonio River watershed. This iNaturalist project aims to help with both our core values and educational goals. SARA, created in 1937, is one of many such active river authorities in the State of Texas. Its jurisdiction covers 3,658 square miles—all of Bexar, Wilson, Karnes and Goliad Counties.

SARA education initiatives help citizens explore the San Antonio River Watershed, the critical importance of river systems, fresh water resources, water quality science and aquatic ecosystems. The types and populations of plants and animals that are present along the San Antonio River can tell us a lot about the quality of the river's water and land around it.

We are certainly grateful for the ability to use this powerful citizen science tool. Thank you for taking the time to participate in our projects.
