Origin story: I grew up in southwest Michigan hunting for morels under the mayapples with my dad, Tom. When my family moved to the Adirondacks in northern New York, dad got a job at Paul Smith's College, and I eventually became a student there. Dad and I met mushroom dye artist Susan Hopkins in 2011, and she changed our lives forever with her zest for fungi and her instruction in field identification.
