My first love was birds, of course (hence the username), but over the past few years I have been working to boost my knowledge on a wider variety of biodiversity. I am a graduate of the ERS (environment program) from the University of Waterloo, and I'm fortunate enough to get to spend some of my time in Presqu'ile Provincial Park.

In 2022 I attempted a challenge proposed by Will van Hemessen on the Ontario Botanists’ project in 2021. The challenge was to observe 1000 plant species in a set 50-kilometre radius! I was featured in a CBC article speaking about this challenge: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/kitchener-waterloo/waterloo-region-naturalist-1000-plant-species-1.6415389, and a Beyond the Bulletin podcast episode: https://soundcloud.com/beyond-the-bulletin/episode-127-student-naturalist-convocation-volunteering-waterloo-at-100/s-X8HoaGMYUh8. I achieved my goal after a long year of intense botanizing. Check out my observations within the radius at this link: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?d1=2022-01-01&d2=2022-12-31&iconic_taxa=Plantae&lat=43.470199&lng=-80.545243&place_id=any&radius=50&subview=map&user_id=baxter-birdnird
