Hobbyist, primarily focused on Colorado arthropods. Unfortunately, I don't have any formal training in entomology. I'm more active on the observation side of iNat, since I'm very good at finding things but terrible at identifying them. However, you can find me handing out coarse IDs in the unknown species department since I can tell a plant from a bird...most of the time.

Things to know about my process:

  • 📱 I usually use the app when interacting with iNat. Unfortunately, right now you can't see bios in the app. If I add a coarse ID with a "Please make sure to add IDs" comment on one of your "Unknown Species" IDs and you're actually a pro naturalist who happens to be out in the field a lot and just has spotty internet, please let me know because the app won't tell me(because this HAS happened before).
  • 🤖 I trust robots in general, and Computer Vision is no exception, with handling things important to me about as much as I trust a toddler to not break glassware. It's probably just me, but any Computer Vision IDs you see me make will be genus-level at maximum.
  • 🔕 I am very bad at noticing comments. If you are trying to interact with me directly and it takes me several days to respond, it's not you or me not thinking it was important.
  • ✔️ I have this weird rule when it comes to when I'll agree with an ID someone else puts on an observation I made. If I'm pretty confident it was the species to begin with(yet stuck it at genus-level because of lingering uncertainty) or the IDer seems very knowledgeable, it only takes one ID. Otherwise, it takes two agreeing IDs.
  • 🏷️ If an observation I upload is identified as "Unknown Species", it just indicates my connection was shoddy when I uploaded it and I couldn't add an ID. If I genuinely cannot ID an observation, it will be identified as "Life".
  • 💼 I have no issue with others adding my observations to projects. In fact, I like seeing where they end up!
