Activated inaturalist in 2021 to record #hungryparrots during autumn/winter in Taroona but other fauna and flora from Tasmania may turn up here too.

Noticed nesting behaviour in parrots during late winter/spring 2021. There were multiple active tree hollows so I've given them an ID number retrospectively. You can search tags TAR001...TAR019 to follow what has been happening at each hollow. Please note: this is not a designed scientific experiment. Photos are recorded with a zoom lens from nearby recreational walking tracks during occasional walks.

Orchid records to Andrew @the_bears.

Update 22Jan22: Nesting activity and Blue Gum flowering has decreased over the summer months. Parrots have dispersed and a few return occasionally to feed when new flowers open. I'm still seeing pairs of Eastern Rosellas in the area but I haven't seen direct evidence of breeding from a nest hollow. Seed pods of shrubs and groundcovers are now forming and summer butterflies, moths and beetles are flying.

Update 26Apr22: About 10-12 Rainbow Lorikeets have been seen flying around the area, seen checking out nesting hollows today, lots of bickering with each other. A couple of small branches in one or two BlueGums have come into flower, not sure if they are late or early!

Update 9Aug22: Green Rosellas and Eastern Rosellas are starting to look for nest hollows. Getting noisier!
