Key Morphological Traits: extremely thin; small pectoral fins; extended lower jaw; vertical and concave face; silver color with a metallic blue tint; forked, yellowish caudal fin

Fun Fact: S. setapinnis has a range that spans from Nova Scotia to Argentina. However, these fish are considered southern strays, meaning the majority of them live further south, and only a few make their way up the North American coastline.

Key Morphological Traits: elliptical, compressed body; narrow band of thin teeth; bluish-grey back with a more silvery underside; horizontal and diagonal orange-brown stripes

Fun Fact: O. chrysoptera create a grunting noise by rubbing their pharyngeal teeth together. These pigfish use the same teeth to grind up shellfish and other foods that they eat.
