Description

This cocoon-like structure was found on a branchlet of River Birch at the edge of the constructed pond. Pictures 1 and 2 are in situ, showing the leaves incorporated in the silk. Picture 3 shows the opening on top; the ruler is in cm. Pictures 4--6 are under magnification to show details of the silk construction. A few cm inside is what appears to e a platform made of leaves and silk. I do not want to dissect it until I know whether it might be still alive.
