Description

C'est un des rares ichneumons reconnaissable du premier coup d'oeil. Les tibias tricolores avec la bande blanche médiane est caractéristique de l'espèce. C'est la superstar des ichneumons, sans doute même le plus répandu des hyménos à la surface du globe, et toujours en grandes quantités. C'est simple, on le trouve d'Islande jusqu'en Afrique du Sud.
Son mode de reproduction parthénogénétique serait en grande partie responsable de son succès écologique : on connait les mâles, mais ils sont extrêmement rares et confinés en Amérique du Nord.
Un truc amusant : cet individu est tellement commun et assez photogénique, que je l'ai vu plusieurs fois en photo sur des brochures comme illustration des auxiliaires de culture utilisables contre les ravageurs (y a un truc comme ça qui trainait y a pas longtemps sur le forum "ceux qu'on ne sait pas où placer". L'ironie c'est que D. laetatorius est tout sauf un auxiliaire, puisqu'il a la facheuse manie de parasiter des syrphes aphidophages !

Morphologie
Diplazon laetatorius est un Ichneumon au corps noir avec une partie de l’abdomen rouge, et des bandes blanches bordées de noir caractéristiques sur les pattes, qui en font l’un des rares Ichneumonidés reconnaissables à vue.

Habitat
Cet endoparasite est une espèce cosmopolite, on la rencontre dans tous les types de milieux. Les adultes hivernent.

Reproduction
Les femelles de la famille des Ichneumonidés déposent usuellement leur œuf dans les chenilles vivantes ou les chrysalides de papillons qui servent alors d'alimentation aux larves. Diplazon laetatorius est un endoparasite fréquent des larves de Syrphidés (des Diptères) qui se reproduit par parthénogénèse (les œufs sont issus d’ovules non fécondés).

Régime alimentaire
Les adultes se nourrissent du nectar des fleurs, d’Ombellifères notamment, tandis que les larves se nourrissent des œufs et larves d’autres insectes qu’elles parasitent.

Relation avec l’Homme
Cette espèce n’est pas menacée.

Répartition géographique
Diplazon laetatorius est une espèce commune largement répartie en Europe.
