I was intrigued how it was queuing to cross the road like school kids at a cross walk. But I was bothered there was no crossing guard. So I made a "snap" decision and walked it over.

Note, however, that in addition to their ferocious bite, they have a good kick. I got some good cuts from the back claws on my index fingers. I wish, in retrospect, I'd have the foresight to put on some gloves. I was glad I at least had soap and water as standard kit in my car. The process was scary for all concerned!
Saw 2 large distinct groups of DCCO. One large raft by boat ramp of at least 75 birds. The other group was at the far south end of reservoir roosting in snags in the shallows. They were a very vocal group and it was fun to sit and listen to the differrent calls
Per buggiuide.net, series of yellow-rimmed eyespots along the edge, with darkened ones not more than twice as large as lighter ones; only one eyespot on underside of forewing is darker and usually larger than the other spots. innermost marginal dark line may be somewhat zig-zag. As opposed to Little Wood Satyr which has dark eyespots often more than twice as large as lighter ones and line is not zig-zag.
First time I’ve ever seen this in bloom and setting fruit!
