This organism was observed off of a trail in NATL under some leaf litter, and moved quickly once approached. The ambient temperature was in the mid to high 80s and it was a sunny day with little recent rain.
Classification:
Class Reptilia - Terrestrial, keratin scales
Subclass Lepidosauria - not extinct, transverse cloacal slit
Family Colubridae - smooth scales, slender body, narrow neck
Genus/Species Rhadinaea flavilata - reddish-orange color with white around the jaw/mouth and a thin dark line that runs from the eye to the corner of the mouth
