Found under a boulder on river terrace
Under tracking tunnel in forest
7 spiderlings noted under this log. Earlier this year there were as many as 6 eggsacs here, but only two remain. Some of these spiderlings have only exited the eggsac in recent days.
The literature extant suggests katipo don't breed over winter. It has been clear to me for years that this is not the whole story, since this has been a fairly normal winter w.r.t. temperatures this year, ie. we've had a number of frosts already.
Cute!
Common in the ground layer of montane Mountain beech forest.
