This caterpillar was found by my students in the sand below the Indian almond tree. We put him in a jar Ruth the almond leaves and he eats them. He made a silk secured “house” between two smaller leaves. He is only active in the dark and eats at night. I put him in a box for a few hours and he came out so I could try to get a picture of him. He moved very fast back to his “house” when exposed to light. I guessed this aiD based on Google image search but I honestly have no idea. He is bright orange with short spikes that also seem to have fine hairs surrounding them. His face is black with yellow accents.
September 5 - it pupated over the weekend, inside its little “house”.
Today, September 14, the butterfly emerged but failed to completely come out and the wings have not expanded. I’ll check it in the morning.
