I think that this observation matches the ID because the birds coloring with the darker back and white chest look similar. The beak shapes also have a similar resemblance with the shape
Many thanks to @kyanocitta for calling this one out. It was the high point of this trip, for me. Not quite a life bird, but the first really good look at one of these I've had.
Skua attacking an elegant tern!
Cant figure out which sandpiper this is. ~half the size of a godwit, yellow blackish legs, dark straight bill. About five of them, hanging out loosely with a godwit and curlew.
Probably Parasitic? But the outer wings are very white. Will post the JPEGs proper later. Chasing Elegant Tern
Juvenile. ID obvious in the first few photos, but I find the light in the later photos to make the ID much tougher (suggesting BRSP/CCSP), which we found surprising and interesting.
Viewed and photographed in the flowering trees that hosted both BCHU and RTHU at this time last year (36.631738, -121.931819). Constantly tail-pumping in flight. Thanks to Brian Sullivan and Steve Tucker for review / verification.
