also known as nut moss
aka phoenix feather
aka knights plume
Growing on upturned soil surrounding a fallen tree’s roots. Field ID: Atrichum altecristatum. The small size (15 microns) of the laminal cells and the presence of a few lamellae that were 10 cells high persuaded me to change my ID to Atrichum angustatum. Other opinions sought. @dorothy

1 In the field.
Dry. Capsules erect.
3-6 Leaves showing wavy lamellae and apical teeth.
7 Laminal cells. Width (difficult to see measurements) 15 microns.
8-9 Cross section of proximal part of leaf.
10-11 Cross section of distal part of leaf showing a lamella up to 10 cells tall.
Leafy segments reproductive? They’re connected to the sphagnum moss looking pieces which are the dominant moss on rocks.
