I found this little fish washed up near whale lookout at Cockle Creek in Tasmania.
I had never seen anything like it before, it was very brightly reflective silver with long whitish/red fins and tail.
It was very slender, only about 5mm thick and its body length was about 100mm.
It also had a fin the whole length of the top its body, on top of its head the fin was very long.
It also had upwards facing mouth.
See attached photos.
I hope you can identify this fish as it intrigued me!
These organisms were collected as part of the 2018-2019 NSF Funded Mezo-zooplankton Trophodynamics in the California Current survey (MEZCAL).

This king-of-the-salmon washed up earlier in the day and I could only retrieve it closer to night. By then seagulls and crows tore apart the face. Generally, one of these seems to wash up once a year around this time. If you ever find one please email me (m.j.quindazzi@gmail.com) so I can take notes on it at the University of Victoria.
