Description

Tentatively, based on Bugguide. Gorgeous fly! Large, estimated 12 mm or so, eyes sparsely pilose. Size and dark legs should rule out Laetodon. Habitat was dry mixed oak/pitch pine woodland on glacial outwash soil.

This small male with the mostly separated dorsal markings gave me pause. I first thought it might be Parasyrphus tarsatus, but things don't appear quite right for that. @billdean Do you agree?

I had E. abiskoensis later in the summer of 2016, and I think that's quite possibly a label for this one. It is a little more orange-toned on the abdomen markings, so I would like extra eyes on it.
