Chamaerops humilis, la única especie del género Chamaerops, se conoce popularmente como palmito o palmera enana.

Es una de las dos especies, junto con Phoenix theophrasti, de la familia de las palmeras Arecaceae) nativa de la Europa meridional.

Se distribuye por el norte de África y el sureste y suroeste de Europa.

Es la única especie de palmera autóctona de la Península ibérica y las Islas Baleares.
