Description
@owenclarkin , you mentioned that you needed a sense of scale for the buds and twigs of the other observation of mine of an Ulmus rubra that I added last week (observation # 21520366) since you umderstandably wondered if it was perhaps instead an U. x intermedia. I didn't measure the twigs, buds and the spacing between the latter, but placing my left hand in the photos, as you suggested, should help. This young U. rubra sapling is a similar size to that other one, and it is growing between 20 and 30 cm from it. Instead of observing that U. rubra again, I observed this one. Also observed at the same time (observations as well added) are other older and larger U. rubra.

Description
at right (yellow arrow); showing "juvenile" features, side-by-side with "adult" American Elm and Slippery Elm for comparison. Frequently, such young and vigorous-growing Ulmus americana have rough-textured leaves and are liable to be confused with Ulmus rubra; be sure to check leaf details other than texture such as vein patterns, teeth size, etc. and also the buds which are different from Ulmus rubra. A juvenile Ulmus rubra in situ on Petrie island for comparison here:

Description
This is technically a bad observation of a White Pine. It should have a picture of the needles of the tree at least but it comes from a time before I was doing iNaturalist. I just love this picture and the tree.
