Old looking Loblolly Bay also. Hardwood swamp to the west is probable old/original growth.
This specimen came from 80 ft depth. It is almost pure white and likely does not surface often.
This specimen was seen at the mouth of a cave. It was feeding on filamentous algae. It was caught in a dipnet, photographed on site in a small aquarium and released where it was caught.
Located and photographed this 4th documented Georgia State Record Black-throated Gray Warbler. Published in various periodicals, including (1) North American Birds (NAB), A Quarterly Journal of Ornithological Record Published by the American Birding Association (ABA) ( "Fall Migration Issue" Vol. 64: No.1, 2010) (2) Birder's World Magazine, April 2010 (3) The Oriole, Journal of the Georgia Ornithological Society, Volume 74, 2009, page 80 (4) BirdScope, Vol. 25 (2) Spring 2011, Rosetta Stone for Warblers Insert.
I initially located and photographed the BTYW alone on 9 and 10 (heavy rain event) Nov 2009. Other birders and I relocated the BTYW on 11 and 12 November. I reported the sightings, beginning on 9 November to the birding community through the Georgia Birders Online List Server.

In a 1973 publication (Description of the Nymph of Lestes inaequalis) by Minter Westfall and Ken Tennessen, they described the nymph of L. inaequalis from Fox Pond northwest of Gainesville, FL. As far as I can tell, there are no other records for Elegant Spreadwing (L. inaequalis) in Florida. The article described finding exuviae on April 13 1969 and again in April 1970.
Thankfully this pond is still mostly state-owned, though the western portion backs up to some homes. On Sunday May 16, Rex Rowan, Michael Drummond, and I visited Fox Pond to see if this population still persists 51 years later. We found one male Swamp and one male Elegant! The pond is heavily vegetated, and we heard juvenile heron calls. We didn't want to accidentally spook a juvenile heron out of its nest, so we didn't walk the entire state-owned perimeter of the lake.
I love these!
Orange County, FL. April 2020. Home garden.
Here's a nice one from the archives. Adult male found by me and Pete Danch (@jdanch) at my Auntie's 80 acre farm in upstate New York. Photo by my friend and herp photographer par excellence, Zig Leszczynski (obviously!) haha!
Several individuals observed. Tate's Hell State Forest, vicinity of Sumatra, FL.
I watched this encounter for over an hour as the frog protested and the snake persisted.

April 2015 nature journal entry; Clarke County, Georgia. The Eastern Bluebirds have been quite active and occupy each box I put in the back last summer. One pair diligently brought grubs and bugs to their young, making repeated flights in close succession. They were so committed to providing for their young that I was able to slowly move in close between their grub runs to get some good photos. http://williamwisephoto.com/photographyblog/backyard-bluebird-nest-box
