Xanthomelaena schematias : 5 spots on forewings, hindwings yellowish white with apical black spot and submarginal spot on vein 3 (no lunule or oblique line like in M. dichochrosialis).

Meroctena dichochrosialis : abdomen with a dorsal band on subterminal segment (not for X. schematias), hindwings with a large lunule, a subterminal spot and an oblique line.

Conogethes pandamalis is considered as a synonym of M. dichochrosialis (Description of C. pandamalis = Botys pandamalis : https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/120012#page/213/mode/1up and picture plate 1 Fig.18 https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/36016#page/383/mode/1up). Type locality of C. pandamalis : Malaysia, Borneo, Sumatra, Singapore, Java, Bali, Sumbawa, Philippines, Taiwan. This could explain the fact that M. dichochrosialis is not endemic to Bali but much more widespread.
