An unusual snail, from north-facing dolomitic rock cliffs in the Little maria mountains.

These were consistently small, around 11mm. A photo comparing to a much larger Eremarionta rowelli shell is included, which was taken from volcanic cliffs in the nearby Whipple mountains (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/199853341).

Some photos of the habitat included. Unable to find a live specimen despite searching efforts. Probably too late in the day and a bit dry.

This scallop has been seen (in the form of the photograph) by Henk Dijkstra (who thought it might be Paraleptopecten velero), Paul Valentich-Scott (who thought it was NOT P. velero, but might be Chlamys hastata). Also, Crassodoma gigantea has been suggested. Ultimately, there is no consensus as of yet. Some think it may be a non-native species.

Holotype (CASIZ 182590), 33 mm long as shown here, on which Terry Gosliner based his 2010 description of this species (as Flabellina goddardi). I found it on a calm and bright overcast morning crawling in the open in a low intertidal pool at Tar Pits Reef. The 2nd image shows the egg mass, 14 mm in diameter, laid by this individual on 10 May 2008. The uncleaved zygotes averaged 65 microns in diameter, were packed one per capsule, and took 7 days at an average of 16 degrees C to develop into hatching planktotrophic veligers. The 3rd image shows, in right ventro-lateral view, one of the veligers just prior to hatching and with a shell 105 microns long.

Unlike most specimens observed subtidally, individuals of this species found intertidally vary in possession of white lines on the body and cephalic tentacles from completely absent (as in this specimen) to incomplete, to complete. With those white lines, subtidal specimens have occasionally been mistaken for Coryphella trilineata.

Shell about 10 mm long. Found two on sand under a low intertidal boulder. Very extensible, active, blade-shaped foot and tentaculate mantle covering most of the shell. I don't recall ever seeing this species before, and with that active, white-striped foot, it was eye-catching. The last image shows one of the specimens as found, at the entrance to a burrow of unknown origin, but possibly constructed by Neotrypaea biffari, which are frequent in the boulder field at Naples Point.

The long foot, long tentacles, and mantle covering most of the shell place this little cutie in the Galeommatoidea.

Robin Agarwal (@anudibranchmom) was with me in the field when I spotted these and got a great video clip of one using its foot to move step-wise: https://www.flickr.com/photos/30314434@N06/31128212317

Finally and at last, another specimen of this little beauty, which I first observed last November (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/18597683). These are the only specimens of this species I have ever seen anywhere!

Shell 7.4 mm long, found on the underside of a low intertidal boulder, along with two small Conualevia alba and a good size Stenoplax conspicua (see 3rd image, which shows the clam as I found it after turning the rock). 4th image shows the cobble field where I found this specimen, as well as the two last November. The last two images are of this specimen relaxed in MgCl2.

Large (for a pseudoscorpion), about 5 mm. Interesting behavior: followed a Granite Shoulderband along its slime trail, then sheltered underneath the snail; when the snail moved, it followed again. Is it just looking for moisture? Has anyone else seen this sort of behavior? @tlawson I thought you might be interested, or perhaps have noticed them doing this in the past?
