Description
A common bird on the Daintree river , but one of the most amazing fishing birds. This birds can fish from a spot quite far above the water and hang upside stretch their neck out and successfully catch a fish. When first observed no one can believe they can fish from that height. To watch them go totally upside down is absolutely amazing.

Grape hawk #6 reared
25 June 2017:
I am trying to learn how to tell the small annual invasion of similar but (I suspect) different hawk moth caterpillars on my grapevine apart. Today I collected #6 of my experiment.
22 July 2017:
The caterpillar spun a loose cocoon among bits of frass and food plant at the bottom of its tub.
5 September 2017:
Adult moth emerged.

Firebeetle more
Come dusk, we were treated to Firebeetles flying around all evening. Surprisingly they were equally happy over the water as on the river bank.
Not many - only 5-6 visible at a time.
