Locally common in slowly flowing water at outlet of Lake Te Wapu. Formerly common on Rekohu, particularly in Te Whanga now rather scarce - we are not sure why this has happened either.
Branching pattern 'zig-zagged', leaf apices obtuse, inflorescences with 3-4 carpels.

Narrow strip of kanuka trees along roadside. Kanuka trees on the E side (Ngai Tahi property) are alive, but trees on the W side have been chopped off and killed. A row of pine trees has been planted in their place.
