Spotted Gum (Corymbia maculata)

Description

Differentiating Spotted Gum (Corymbia spp.) is a tricky business

Pimefact 1073 Nov 2010 lists three species, C. maculata, C. citriodora subspecies variegata and C. henryi

This area is well south of the natural range of C. henryi and C. citriodora

C. henryi can be separated on morphological characteristics but descriptions of C. maculata and C. citriodora are more similar and it has been extensively planted in this area

Based on my observations in this local area where I'm finding mostly 2 distinct forms, one with generally broader leaves with a moderately strong, sweet eucalyptus odour (calling C. maculata) and another with uniformly long narrow leaves and a very strong distinctly cirronella odour (calling C. citriodora)

Photograph of 2 groups of leaves included: All those at left are from a specimen I've called C. citriodora while those at right I've called C. maculata
