Description

Observed this bryophyte with numerous sporophytes growing acrocarpously from the gametophyte. Growing on charred ground in a campfire ring. Gametophyte tiny with sporophyte taking majority of size of individual. Sporophytes with orange-brown seta and deep to bright red capsules, somewhat translucent. growing amongst other initial colonizers, such as several lichens including Cladonia. Temperature 40 degrees F and rainy rainy rainy.

Weather- 43°F and raining
Location- West Olympia
Habitat- Deciduous tree stand in a ditch, lots of leaf litter and woody debris on the ground
Key Features- Small specimens, 0.6-1.0cm caramel colored caps, rounded conical & slightly umbonate, stipe up to 3.5cm and white, young specimens have incurved margin with whispy white veil, blue bruising on caps
