This individual was seen by numerous birders in several locations in this neighborhood. The family from whose property these photos were taken have since said they would prefer to retain their privacy and no longer allow birders on into their yard. Please, always be respectful of other people - no matter how rare the bird!

The Pacific Ent is distinguished from others of the genus by its distinctive bushy eyebrows resembling almost a sword fern. The juvenile specimen pictured here is notable for its rebellious yet nonchalant nature as it is seen smoking a maple tree branch.

I Heard There Were Storms Coming
This is how Frack greeted me at 7:17 am this morning. We have severe thunderstorms with possible large hail & tornados predicted for late this afternoon & evening. This owl house is in a protected spot on a large pecan tree trunk high up.
With her in the backyard house (no cameras & squirrel junk inside) I won't know if she is sitting on eggs, or we have any babies until a fuzzy little face peeks out several weeks from now. Fingers crossed.

This is the second beach, out of four, with the species.

Observed parasitizing the thallus of Allomyces.

Soil was collected from a cornfield and dried overnight in an oven. It was then flooded with sterile water and baited with sesame seeds. The Allomyces grew on the sesame seeds, and after a month, these Rozella allomycis resting spores were observed within the host tissues.

A medium-sized moth that camouflages fairly well against the bark of pine trees
This moth is one of the smallest species of it's genus in Borneo.
Pale greenish gray in color.

This is the first picture of Sporormiella calomera. Ahmed and Cain's description of the species only had drawings and it has not been photographed before.

12-celled, spores 65µm-80um x 15µm-18um. Asci around 210µm

A ciliate that resembles an Easter egg. This one was found in a natural pond intermittently connected to the Gatineau river by a culvert.

The colourful cytoplasm consists mainly of food vacuoles containing cyanobacteria in various phases of digestion. The cytostome (cell mouth) is supported by a cytopharyngeal basket composed of stiff microtubular rods (at the anterior right, from cell's perspective). The cell has numerous spindle-shaped trichocysts, visible here as short black lines.
