@bradenjudson if you find yourself staring at layers of white crustose lichens on alder, keep an eye out for these radular feeding traces left by some sort of slug or snail. I am guessing they are nocturnal (???) on account of having never seen them in action doing this.

Description

Culm 90, spike 10, wispy involute leaves 90 long 1 wide strongly folded. Round peri 4 long 2.5 wide, beak 0.5, wings 0.75 wide. Stigmas 3.

Among boulders near an alpine tarn.

Weird sedge. Scales are much longer than the perigynia and awned. It stood out among the C. nigricans and C. micropoda seen frequently in the area. Not sure..

Another example of "Gollum" a mysterious cyanobacterial mucilage seen in cloud forests throughout New Zealand - see also https://inaturalist.nz/observations/8761910.

This specimen noted on the lower canopy branches of silver beech (Lophozonia menziesii) growing amongst bryophytes, lichens and Hymenophyllum multifidum.

Sample sent to Dr Phil Novis to see what it really is. The current generic name used here is a suggestion made by Dr Novis in 2017. At the time Dr Novis asked to examine a specimen.

This is an example of a SPURLESS Platanthera that otherwise appears to be P. aquilonis. Specimen will be submitted to UBC.

This is the first one I've ever found that had to be bent to fit into the press, so it's unusually tall.

This site had mostly normal P. aquilonis, a few of these spurless morphs, and a few robust Platanthera that seemed to be P. huronensis.

This is an example of a SPURLESS Platanthera that otherwise appears to be P. aquilonis.

The tip of the specimen was removed to go right into silica gel from the field.
Specimen will be submitted to UBC.
