I see there are 6 records of this beetle (genus) on BugGuide for WA, and 3 entered in iNat (aside from the 3 I've now entered). None of the WA entires in either location are speciated, so I'm guessing not a lot is known about the beetle in this area, and/or that it quite possibly requires far more than a picture to make such a determination (as countless species do).
Although some BugGuide records in other states are assigned to the subgenus by the same name, very few in the US have been identified to the species level. (I don't see subgenus in iNat as an option when I enter the genus and a space to get the species to appear).

This NSWO flew into our window after it was attacked by a cat. We let the owl sit in the snow for a little bit (and scared the cat off) because it was stunned. We then induced the owl to fly off to a nearby oak tree. It roosted there for about 10 minutes before flying into the safety of a nearby juniper tree. This is a friendly reminder to either not let your cat go outside or, at the very least, put it on a leash, please!

My second time finding this species. This time the beetle used a defense mechanism and secreted an extremely foul-smelling odor on me, which I am not exaggerating when I say that it is the smell of feces, akin to dog poop. The smell is vastly different than other carabids, which I can compare to be less atrocious if I’m being honest. Otherwise I’m glad I got to take some proper pictures this time around. Was placed carefully back under the rotting log in which I found it. Mixed deciduous / coniferous forest.
