Description

A beautiful species seen interacting with Grey Fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa) in the same tree, one of my favorite observations so far.

Subspecies ID supported by range in Menkhorst et al. (2017, p.360) where ssp. punctatus is the eastern species, as opposed to the far more inland ssp. xanthopyge and the northern ssp. millitaris. "ssp. punctatus and smaller millitaris have red uppertail-coverts merging to orange red rump." Wikipedia also hasa in-depth analysis of this birds taxonomy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotted_pardalote)

This specimen is a male due to presence of yellow on throat, whereas the female has yellow spots on the crown.
