Learn how Bolsa Chica Land Trust is Building Biodiversity from the Ground Up at our Native Plant Growing Space. We will take you through soil health, seed processing, habitat evaluation and seeing the big picture of habitat restoration with presentations and hands-on activities. Also learn about community science and how you can be involved at a level you feel comfortable with. Walk away with knowledge and a snazzy mini journal to record your observations or keep track of your daily routine.

Our event will include the following displays and presentations:
The Seeds of Biodiversity – Learn how we collect and process seeds to get them ready for planting, plant some seeds yourself and take a few home to put some native color in your yard.

Biodiversity in the Dirt - Learn how soil is more than just dirt at Bolsa Chica. The land at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve has been through a lot over the past 150 years and the soil has been degraded. What makes healthy soil and who is helping restore Bolsa Chica’s soil so that it can support native habitat.

Study of Biodiversity, a Snapshot - Learn how scientists keep track of biodiversity by using transects. Then try it out yourself using a meter square frame to observe plants, animals or signs of animals and decide if you are looking at a healthy native habitat.

Noticing Biodiversity, The Big Picture – Learn about community science and how you can help scientists around the world study and track plants and animals by using iNaturalist. Then join in supporting the California 30x30 project by observing 30 different species of plants, animals, insects and fungi.
