Ever since I joined the iNat team, I've wanted to go to an iNat happy hour.
Since we don't have one, I thought I'd organize it!
A group of us are getting together this Thursday (October 29th) at the Little Shamrock in the Sunset District of San Francisco, about 5-7. They have good cheap beer, free popcorn, darts and board games. There's plenty of food in the neighborhood.
A good chunk of the iNat development team has said they'll be there, including @kueda, @loarie, @joelle, and @tiwane. Sounds like some of our CAS colleagues @kestrel and @rebeccafay might stop by, too!

Irish? Beer? Heck ya...see ya there, Kids...
Thanks so much for the invite! I'll be leading 3rd graders around Sonoma Mt. that afternoon, so hope to catch you all at another gathering. Have fun!
Thanks for the invite, but can't make it up from my now-distant digs in the South Bay! - Jennifer
I have a couch/living room in the Castro here for any distant traveller..
That would be fun! I'll try to make it and bring @tomv
Thanks for the invite but I cannot make it .
starts walking
WISH I could be there! Make sure to observe ANY/ALL organisms around the pub!
This is a terrific idea! Have one in the East Bay and I'll be there with bells on.
Sorry I can't make it, I'm enjoying nature in the Adirondacks, then doing a trade show in NYC.
I'm going to try to make it -- leaving 16th and mission at 6, so probably there for just the tail end at 6:30 or so. Also: the new home page looks great! (Hope it's not 2 months old already and I missed it...)
Thanks for the invite, sounds like a good idea. I was in Klamath Falls so I couldn't make it! Maybe next time.
Thanks everyone for coming @sea-kangaroo @dpom @amybird @robberfly @kueda @kestrel @metsa @joelle @loarie @rebeccafay @tiwane @rademacherdan!
Thanks for organizing @alexshepard! We missed you.
It was so great to see everyone. This community makes me so happy.
Thanks for all you do.
So sorry to miss this! What a picture for the archives! It is a great community!
Next month: East Bay. Later: South Bay? North Bay? Also next month: tucking in t-shirt (facepalm)
everyone cleans up pretty nicely ~
Unfortunately I saw this too late! Looks like it was fun.
I didn't know you brought on a new person( @tiwayne )- awesome! (not sure why the @ didn't work)... anyway looks awesome, obviously I was 3000 miles too far east to attend, but maybe one day.
@charlie, maybe we could do one in CT over xmas? Or go on a hike? There actually are more people using iNat in CT these days...
I'd definitely be up for it. We will be down there this Xmas for sure, I'm not sure exactly how long but for several days at least.
Cool! Yo @carrieseltzer @treegrow @calopteryx et al. Anybody up for a December DC Happy Hour?
Yes, @muir! Count me in!
I'm leaving for X-mas vacation in mid-December. Should be able to make it if it's before December 13. @jhammock
How about http://www.scienceclubdc.com? Seems appropriate and I want to scout it as a location for DC bioblitz stuff :-) Also open to more convenient suggestions! If someone starts a new journal thread for DC please tag me in it so I don't miss it.
science club indie bar? I guess there are some things you just don't get to have in a town of 8000 people :) We got our taproom and our dive bar and that's that.
@muir count me in anytime after Dec. 7 :) Science Club sounds good.
Dig those iNat shirts! We're starting to build an iNat community up in the Portland Metro area, and we have plenty of pubs... may have to try to emulate this in Ptown soon.
Speaking of t-shirts, can you put some on CafePress or something? Would love to have one! @joelle @loarie @alexshepard @kueda @tiwane
Awesome. @carrieseltzer , I sent an email to the Science Club -- maybe they can prepare special nature-orientated cocktails for us. Hey @jhammock does that mean a special guest @loarie 12/4 HH wouldn't work for you? Hopefully we can pin down a date over email.
Join us @charlie ! I'll contribute $10 towards your bus fare and you can iNat the trees traveling south along the highway system....
YES, please more t-shirts. These suckers would go like hot cakes in Texas. I have worn mine several times, and lots of people tell me that they want one/will kill me for mine. :)
My two cents -- it would be cool to have the tagline on the front as well:

The T shirts are awesome
@wisel please keep me in the loop on any iNat community stuff happening in PDX or in the pacific northwest! Most of my family lives in Seattle, so I'm up there three of four times a year. I'd love to help organize or go to a bioblitz in Portland or Seattle.
@muir a bus or train tour with tons of inaturalist sightings would be awesome. Imagine a train with wifi and a window seat. Probably lots of invasives along the train line.
Will definitely let you all know next time I am in the DC area... probably limited travel for us this winter due to us expecting a baby :) But later on, I'm sure I will be down that way some time again, I have family there too. I visited DC in ~2005 but it was pre-inaturalist so I have very limited records. I saw my first firefly somewhere around there.
@charlie, first firefly? Where are you from? Also, congrats on the expected baby! My toddler would love to meet her/him whenever you make it to DC :-)
Thanks! Definitely! @carrieseltzer ...I grew up in southern California. Apparently there are some VERY rare fireflies there as I just learned recently but I've never seen one in CA... in 2005 i was in the DC area and saw a late firefly (august) and it was the first I'd ever seen, at ~25 years old. Now that we live in Vermont we get a lot of them!
Woo hoo for future naturalists!
Hey I want a tee shirt! I also would love to see how many iNatters there are in NYC, or in Manhattan maybe, and try to get them together before the frosts start.
And I very much agree with what Sam said about the tee shirts:
"... it would be cool to have the tagline on the front as well:
