Continue to add observations -- each one is valuable. :)

Every single observation of an bug, bird, plant, or fungi continues to be valuable to this project and our understanding of the flora and fauna of Tandy Hills. With all of these observations, we're updating the species guides. Take a look:

You can search for groups of things with this digital field guide -- fungi, frogs, moss, or beetles... Whatever you want!

So any and every time you go out to Tandy Hills and make observations, your findings are helping to create a wonderful guide to other explorers. Please continue! :)

What a beautiful BioBlitz! Hope you enjoyed it! Results coming in...

Thanks to all that participated both physically and digitally (with identifying!) in the Tandy Hills BioBlitz! If you came to it, did you have a good time? We hope so -- a lot of work went into this event, so we hope that you all enjoyed it.

Results are coming in... If you took some photographs with a camera, please try to get them uploaded as soon as you can. This way, we can send this data out to all of the participants and those that are curious about this event sooner rather than later.

Here are the observations made at Tandy Hills:
http://www.inaturalist.org/observations?place_id=any&project_id=4985&subview=grid&verifiable=any

Here are the species that have been documented and the times these species had been observed:

If you want to help out with some of the ID's of observations, PLEASE do! We need as much help ID'ing these organisms as we can get. Here's a link to the observations that need ID:

If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions on how this sort of event can be improved in the future, please leave a comment. Thanks for being a part of this BioBlitz! :)

It has begun... Come on out to Tandy Hills and make some observations, especially Friday and Saturday!

The week long data surveys have begun at Tandy Hills! Come on out and visit the 160 acre natural area to see how many different plants, animals, and fungi you can observe. With the rains, it may be a GREAT time to look for fungi!

On Earth Day (Friday, April 22) and Saturday, there will be ample opportunities to learn about the various organisms that call Tandy Hills home.

BioBlitz Training and lots of excitement!

I hope you have your calendars marked for April 22 and 23 for the Tandy Hills BioBlitz! Excitement abounds around this event, and we hope to get lots of participation from citizen scientists throughout the metroplex (and state!). For more details: http://www.tandyhills.org/events/bioblitz

To prepare for this event, we'll be doing a few BioBlitz trainings. One will be this Sunday, April 3, from 1 to about 3 and another one will be on Monday, April 11, from 6:30 to around 8:30. Essentially, we will be going over how to use iNaturalist to document organisms through the apps and with a camera and the website.

Be sure to check back here frequently for more observations and for more details on the bioblitz!

Check out Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area website for details on BioBlitz in 2016!

Happy New Year! In 2016, there are a lot of great projects in the works for Tandy Hills Natural Area. The Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area (FOTHNA), along with Texas Wesleyan University, City of Fort Worth Park and Recreation Department, and Teaming with Wildlife: True to Texas are working on the first ever Tandy Hills BioBlitz. "The 2016 BioBlitz at Tandy Hills Natural Area will combine cutting edge technology, biology, land conservation and community engagement in a 36-hour, round-the-clock session April 22-23. The BioBlitz – the first event of its kind at Tandy Hills and one of the first such full-scale events in North Texas - will focus on documenting and preserving one of Fort Worth’s most beautiful, valuable and fragile natural treasures - a one-of-a-kind living prairie museum in the midst of an urban East Fort Worth environment. Volunteers will conduct a systematic biological inventory that will serve as a planning tool for ongoing land management efforts." (from Tandy Hills website)

Please visit the FOTHNA website frequently for updates on this exciting week-long endeavor to catalog the diversity of biota at the park. www.tandyhills.org

BioBlitz is coming to Tandy Hills in April 2016!

Friends of Tandy Hills Natural Area (FOTHNA) and Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) have recently announced the receipt of a grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD). The grant, funded by the TPWD Conservation License Plate program, will help fund a BioBlitz at Tandy Hills (THNA) in April, 2016.

A BioBlitz is an intense period of biological surveying in an attempt to record all the living species within a designated area. Groups of scientists, naturalists and volunteers conduct an intensive field study over a continuous time period. (source: Wikipedia)

The first full-scale BioBlitz project in north Texas will produce a high quality, scientific inventory along with a video documenting the areas biological diversity and the BioBlitz, itself. There will be opportunities for the public to participate. Check www.tandyhills.org for updates.

In the meantime, you can keep collecting data at Tandy Hills via iNaturalist. Your contributions now & during BioBlitz will benefit the park in many ways.
