Christmas Bird Counts (CBC): The Tradition of Citizen-Science

We've reached December, with 120 members and well over 8,000 observations here. Good work, friends and fellow contributors!

From mid-December to early January, birders will participate in the over 100-year-old tradition of Christmas Bird Counts (CBCs). There are four CBCs that include areas of San Mateo county:

  1. Crystal Springs (central San Mateo county) - Saturday December 21st - from Foster City to Half Moon Bay!
  2. Palo Alto (southeastern San Mateo county and north western Santa Clara) - Monday December 16th - includes Windy Hill, Bedwell Bayfront, Russian Ridge, etc.
  3. San Francisco (includes some of Pacifica and Daly City) - Friday, December 27th (see http://www.goldengateaudubon.org/birding-resources/christmas-bird-counts/ for more information)
  4. Año Nuevo - Saturday January 4 - includes Pescadero and Año Nuevo, as well as parts of coastal northern Santa Cruz counties.

For more information on counts 1 and 4, you can contact Leslie here at {leslie_flint}. For more information on counts 2, ask me and I'll see what I can do to get you in touch with the organizer.
