National Public Lands Day BioBlitz with NEEF's Journal

Join NEEF in celebrating National Public Lands Day 2024, “Together for Tomorrow,” this September by contributing to our BioBlitz environmental education activity. This year, our NPLD theme focuses on ensuring the longevity of our cherished places and fostering environmental stewardship. Participating in the NEEF NPLD BioBlitz is a great way to share what you cherish about public lands by posting your observations of living species with the iNaturalist community.

From September 14-October 12, 2024, post what you observed on public lands with a date, evidence of your observation such as a photo or audio recording if you have it, and any other details you can share such as the location of your observation and the species if you are able to identify what you saw. Once you’ve joined this project, your observations during this window of time will automatically contribute to the overall tally of species observations for the BioBlitz. We look forward to celebrating your observations during the NPLD BioBlitz and contributing to stewardship of America’s natural resources.

When you venture onto public lands to celebrate NPLD 2024 and look closely, you will find a diversity of living things sharing those public lands. Biodiversity is the variety of living things in an area – the different plants, animals, fungi, and microorganisms. The United States of America is home to thousands of species of organisms. Unfortunately, biodiversity both in America and globally is declining at unprecedented extinction rates. Threats to biodiversity include habitat loss and degradation, invasive species, climate change, overexploitation, and pollution. NPLD is a day to join together to ensure our precious natural spaces can thrive for generations to come.
