As we have increased plant biodiversity on our permaculture farm in the Kawartha Lakes, we have noticed an increasing variety of insects. As a teacher, activist and writer, I am attempting to bear witness to the other creatures that live on our land and in so doing learn how to better serve them with the food and shelter they need. I also speak about plants and insects to horticulture societies and other interested groups. Most of my photos are taken on Russet House Farm, the 50 acres where our home is. A few are from a local alvar that has been unfortunately purchased by a big developer, and others from the pollinator gardens of my fellow gardeners at the Fenelon Falls Horticultural Society. My goal is to urge action with regard to climate catastrophe by teaching others what it is that we are losing.
