New Year's Day at Arcadia Trail Park

With the temperature hovering around freezing and rain and ice in the air and on the trees, the park was nearly devoid of human beings other than myself. Beautiful natural wonderland. Surprised a Great Blue Heron who was checking out the drainage ditch which was full of water due to the storm. So many of the usual suspects( Northern Cardinal, Northern Mockingbird, House Finch, Myrtle Warbler, Red-shouldered Hawk, Mourning Dove, Northern Flicker) were there. We seem to have more Myrtle Warbler than usual although we always have quite a few this time of year. Such a lovely little bird. Finally found one of our Great Horned Owls although it was difficult to get a decent shot. Hope I will be able to find where they put their nest this year and be able to follow the development like I did two years ago. All the birds were fluffed up to keep themselves warm. Lovely day.

Comments

Interesting weather. In Austin we had a misty day all day, temp never got below 34 so no ice, just drippy and dark all day.
