The one on the right
I think, as default anyway? But I have no experience with Sierra, and this seemed tiny compared to the Nevada Skippers I see in the Carson Range. Using Nevada as a placeholder in the meantime, and would be happy to be wrong!
A little over 11,200' elevation
Just hunting in the woods, but prob. breeding at Lily Pond, nearby. 1st documented Tahoe Basin record that I know of, but almost certainly have been here all along. Bummed I didn't get a better photo!!
I got a tip about a white-headed goose, and immediately got Emperor Goose on the brain. Alas, just this guy
Day Three for this bird, astoundingly the first Tahoe record since 1975 and long overdue! I've been looking for one of these for two decades. Tried for it late yesterday and dipped since the eagles had flushed all the gulls shortly prior to my arrival. Pretty darn happy to finally catch up with this species at Tahoe!!
About 5-6 inches tall. It flew off when the photo was taken.
I saw 35-40 individuals, and all but one were green
