Denison University Biological Reserve
Two of these dragonflies were patrolling about 100 yards of a small creek which had a depth of about one inch and a width of about two feet. They would fly near the surface for 10 to 20 feet and then hover for a second, then continue. Each time they met each other, which was often, a chase ensued.

I don't think this is x catesbaei since there was no SARRFLA nearby. If purp x rubra has a name i don't know it.
