Description

What bird is this? Sorry for pic quality. Similar to American Coot but black beak, thin crane-like neck, and swims with body submerged.

We were running along the Potomac Heritage trail on the river and these birds were everywhere: in the trees, on the water, covering the rocks. They seem to have shown up with the spring.
